Tomales
Vineyard is
a new venture co-pioneered by Bryan Whipple and Betsy Strohl.
One
our 14-acre property east of the western Marin County village
of Tomales, we are in the process of planting a trial patch
of Pinot Noir. If the one-acre trial seems able to set
and ripen its fruit under our conditions, we will expand suitably
to achieve a very small, family-farm style, integrated vineyard
and winery operation. Target production is approximately
1,250 cases per year.
Tomales
Vineyard
will (to the extent possible) adhere to the following concepts:
- Organic
viticulture following CCOF guidelines
- We grow every grape we crush
- We crush every good grape we grow
- We grow, crush and sell nothing but our own estate-bottled
Pinot Noir
- One release per vintage
- Sales at the winery or by mailing list only, with production
limited accordingly
- Each vintage priced according to its value, which will necessarily
fluctuate from vintage to vintage
*With, however,
a variety of clones in our plantings to provide desired complexity)
